They are part of Bolsonaro's base, and now the flat earth conspiracy is running around and being taught as part of the alt right fallacy package, which also includes stuff like creationism, anti-vaccination and other absurdities.įor me, it's clear that a movement couldn't get this big and organized if it was formed only by people stupid enough to believe the flat is earth because you cant see the curve. These communities have been growing incredibly fast, and, at least here in Brazil, they are associated with politics. But I'm not so sure they are harmless anymore. Some of us have probably found it funny, even. When we first became aware that, in this day and age, there are organized groups of people that genuinely believe the earth is flat, complete with many theories and "scientific" experiments to prove them, I imagine most of us, past the initial shock, didn't give it much thought since these people are obviously stupid and couldn't do much harm.
